How do I choose the right auto accident attorney?

Some basic tips:
Get a referral from a friend or colleague Don't assume that the attorney on the back of the phone books knows what he or she is doing Consider hiring someone that regularly handles accident and injury cases in that particular area of Virginia - Most importantly, look at the attorney's background, experience, and track record. I am not a tax attorney and would never attempt to help anyone with tax-related issues. Make certain that the attorney you hire has experience handling claims similar to yours.

WHAT WILL THE ATTORNEY ACTUALLY DO FOR ME?
Remember that each case is different and that one case may require certain work by the attorney that another case does not require. The following is simply a list of common tasks that we perform in many of our cases:
Obtain witness statements
Obtain police reports
Inspect the scene of the accident take photos of the cars involved in the wreck and the scene obtain medical records
Obtain medical bills
Educate the client about the legal process
Review the client's automobile insurance policy
Review the client's health insurance policy
Review all other insurance policies
Interview witnesses
Conduct legal research review the legal issues such as assumption of risk and contributory negligence
Obtain written reports from the client's health care providers
Meet with the health care providers
Contact the at-fault drivers insurance carrier
Contact our clients automobile insurance carrier in order to submit medical expense coverage (no fee is charged for this service)
Obtain lost wage information obtain medical records from prior to the wreck to prove to the insurance carrier that this is a new injury provide all medical records, bills, lost wages and other damages to an at-fault insurance company in order to substantiate clients losses negotiate a settlement with the insurance adjuster
File suit if negotiations fail
Send interrogatories (written questions to the defendant)
Send request for production of documents to defendant take depositions (sworn testimony) of the defendant and other witnesses
Prepare client for deposition assist client in responding to interrogatories
Meet with witnesses again obtain sworn testimony of health care providers
DETERMINE THE VALUE OF PLAINTIFF'S CLAIM IN ORDER TO NEGOTIATE SETTLEMENT
Meet with client and witnesses in preparation for trial prepare all trial exhibits -
Subpoena all witnesses file motions or briefs prior to trial post-trial motions
